Imperial Maths School aims to support young people from across the local area who enjoy maths and science. We do this through delivering a range of activity programmes in schools and on-campus.

We have developed and launched an exciting range of outreach activities for students from KS3 to KS4. Outreach activities take place in-school, after-school and during holidays and include workshops, masterclasses, taster events (online and in person) and competitions. Please contact us if you have any suggestions, questions, or ideas about our outreach work.

Axiom Maths

We have partnered with Axiom Maths (formerly MESME) to deliver Maths Circles to students in local schools. Our first cohort is currently comprised of Year 8 and 9 students, and in the Autumn term of 2024 they were joined by our second cohort, consisting of Year 7 students.

These sessions are held each Wednesday afternoon, with one in every four sessions being in-person at Imperial Maths School and the rest being online via Zoom or Microsoft Teams. Students are mentored by Imperial undergraduate students and the lessons are organised into 'maths circles'; groups of 5-7 students plus one mentor. In these smaller groups, students get a chance to explore problem solving methods and discuss in detail their working.

Teachers can nominate students through this form. If you wish to know more about Axiom Maths, visit their website or email outreach@imperialmathsschool.ac.uk.
Maths Extra
Maths Extra

In the summer term 2024 we started our second year of hosting Maths Extra - a course for current Year 11 students after school on a Tuesday. The sessions are designed to extend students' understanding of GCSE mathematics and mathematical problem solving. By taking part in Maths Extra, we hope that students will be set up for success in their GCSEs, and also gain the skills necessary to make a flying start to A Level Maths and/or Further Maths.
As part of our aim to widen participation, preference will be given to applicants who are from groups currently underrepresented in the mathematical sciences. We are specifically looking for students who are studying at state schools, female and non-binary students, and students in receipt of Free School Meals or Pupil Premium funding to take part, but all students are welcome to apply.

Express your interest in joining Maths Extra by filling out this form. If you have any questions about the course, please contact outreach@imperialmathsschool.ac.uk

In the second half of the autumn term 2024, we will partner with Orbyts, a multi-award-winning movement that partners scientists with schools to empower school students to undertake world-leading research. The practical work the students put in throughout the summer term will help them thrive as they work alongside real physicists and astronomers. These sessions will take place after school on Tuesdays.

As part of ours and Orbyts' preference will be given to applicants who are from groups currently underrepresented in the mathematical sciences. We are specifically looking for students who are studying at state schools, female and non-binary students, and students in receipt of Free School Meals or Pupil Premium funding to take part, but all students are welcome to apply here.

Mathematical Olympiad for Girls Masterclasses
Mathematical Olympiad for Girls Masterclasses

In the second half of the summer term 2024 we launched a series of masterclasses aimed at preparing students to sit the Mathematical Olympiad for Girls (MOG). Teachers nominated suitable students in years 9 and 10  and we provided the students with an environment where they prepared for the MOG with the help of enthusiastic teachers and high-attainers like themselves.

Students sat the MOG at Imperial Maths School after mentoring sessions before and after the summer. If you are interested in getting involved with next year's MOG Masterclasses or are a teacher with students you wish to nominate, get in contact by emailing outreach@imperialmathsschool.ac.uk.
